Washington Post LTE Highlights Role of Insurance Coverage in Curbing Obesity Rates

In response to a recent article from the editorial board of The Washington Post regarding the decline in the U.S. obesity rate, Alliance for Women’s Health and Prevention (AWHP) CEO, Millicent Gorham, wrote a letter to the editor highlighting the ongoing need for affordable and equitable obesity care coverage.  

The letter explains how insurance barriers are limiting access to evidence-based obesity care––particularly for women––and underscores the crucial role that coverage will play in furthering the decline we are seeing in obesity rates. 

Providing health insurance coverage for comprehensive obesity care, just like we would for any other chronic disease, is crucial to effectively combat the obesity crisis and ensure individuals are able to access needed care.
