EveryBODY Covered: Our First Year
March 27, 2025
Last month, EveryBODY Covered celebrated the one-year anniversary of the campaign’s launch. Led by the Alliance for Women’s Health and Prevention, our mission remains as important now as it was then:
- Dispel myths about obesity and share information about its impact on women throughout their lives
- Empower women of diverse backgrounds to raise their voices in support of expanded coverage
- Urge the employer and policymaker communities to ensure coverage for the full range of evidence-based obesity care
With these goals guiding us every step of the way, we are proud to showcase what our campaign has accomplished over the last year, with the support of 20 national partner organizations and over 60,000 advocates.
During the EveryBODY Covered campaign’s first year, we:
- Mobilized advocates to send nearly 1,000 letters to elected officials in support of expanded obesity care access, including through the Treat and Reduce Obesity Act (TROA) and the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services’ proposed rule
- Urged state and federal policymakers to prioritize obesity as a women’s health issue, including through an EveryBODY Covered-led letter to the Bipartisan Women’s Caucus signed by 23 organizations across the women’s health community
- Drove visibility in prominent national and local media outlets around obesity as a chronic disease, its impact on women and the importance of comprehensive obesity care coverage, including perspectives in The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, Employee Benefit News, MedCity News and West Virginia Public Broadcasting
- Highlighted 18 stories from women across the country about their experiences seeking comprehensive obesity care coverage and the positive impact it has had on their lives
- Hosted webinars in partnership with HealthyWomen and Perfeqta to educate working women and employers about the importance of expanding access to obesity care and motivating them to take action
- Published blog posts and resources for advocates, employers and policymakers to learn more and take action, including a workplace obesity care advocacy toolkit, a fact sheet for employers about the impact of obesity and survey data exploring women’s experiences with obesity.
- Highlighted obesity’s impact in a variety of states, such as New York, Illinois and Ohio, through fact sheets and blog posts.
As we continue to advance our mission, we want to express our gratitude to our dedicated partners and advocates. Together, we have and will continue to make the case for comprehensive obesity care coverage for all.
We can’t wait to see what our second year brings. It’s already off to a great start, with the launch of our employer principles and open letter, calling for business leaders to better support employees living with obesity through workplace healthcare and equity strategies.
Here’s to continuing to work together to get everybody covered!
